News: Hero Honda Chowk Design Delay Holds Up Metro Work: NHAI-14-07-2026
Delays in clearing the final design for the Hero Honda Chowk to Umang Bhardwaj Chowk road are affecting both that project and Gurugram’s metro construction, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has told the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), seeking fast-tracked approval.
NHAI’s letter of July 2 states that a normative cost estimate of Rs 182 crore is ready for a six-lane elevated corridor over the 2.24km stretch, and that the structure requires no further land acquisition.
Multiple changes to the configuration have kept the project pending for nearly five years. It began as road widening with a flyover at Umang Bhardwaj Chowk, was enlarged to add flyovers at Mohammadpur and Sector 37, and is now proposed as a fully elevated corridor.
The NHAI’s Rewari project director said in the letter that road levels, profiles and clearances for the proposed foot overbridge (FOB) cannot be frozen until GMDA and the Haryana government give final consent. GMRL plans an FOB at the Sector 37 metro station, and the letter called a decision on the road configuration critical for it to proceed.
A senior GMRL official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said faster utility shifting and design finalisation are needed to avoid more delays. A GMDA spokesperson said the state government and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways are considering the matter and a decision is expected soon.
