News: NHAI Presses GMDA to Approve Hero Honda Chowk Elevated Road-14-07-2026
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has asked the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) to speed up approval of the final design for revamping the Hero Honda Chowk to Umang Bhardwaj Chowk stretch, saying the delay is stalling both the road and the city’s metro work.
In a July 2 letter, NHAI said it has prepared a normative cost estimate of Rs 182 crore for a six-lane elevated corridor on the 2.24km stretch, which would need no additional land.
The project has been stuck for nearly five years because of repeated design changes. A plan to widen the road with a flyover at Umang Bhardwaj Chowk grew to include flyovers at Mohammadpur and Sector 37, and then became a fully elevated corridor.
NHAI’s Rewari project director wrote that with final consent from GMDA and the Haryana government pending, road levels, profiles and clearances for the proposed foot overbridge (FOB) cannot be frozen. The letter said GMRL, which plans an FOB at the Sector 37 metro station, cannot finalise its design either.
A senior GMRL official said utility shifting and the road design must be expedited. A GMDA spokesperson said the matter is with the state government and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, and a decision is expected soon.
