News: Drones Join Gurugram Crackdown on Lane Violations-14-07-2026
The district traffic police used drones on the Gurugram-Mumbai and Delhi-Gurugram (NH-48) expressways during weekend drives against lane violations and speeding, officials said on Monday. Stretches along the Sohna elevated corridor were covered, and aerial enforcement will continue periodically as part of a special lane discipline campaign.
Between July 6 and July 12, drones and automatic number plate registration (ANPR) cameras produced 1,858 fines for lane violations and 418 for speeding. Counting manual enforcement as well, 3,094 lane violation challans were issued that week.
Police data shows the daily average of such challans reached 812 in the first week of July, against 73 in April, 79 in May and 279 in June, after the campaign began. Monthly challans rose from 2,196 in April, worth Rs 18.25 lakh in penalties, to 8,364 in June, worth Rs 94.06 lakh. Manual and camera enforcement recorded 5,684 violations between June 30 and July 5. Daily averages were 218 in 2025, 168 in 2024, 82 in 2023 and 90 between January and March 2026.
A traffic police spokesperson said mobile riders are monitoring the NH48, Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) and Dwarka Expressway corridors, and transport associations are being sensitised so heavy vehicles keep to the left lane.
Deputy commissioner of police (Traffic) Prateek Gehlot met 25 transport associations in June before the campaign. The District Road Safety Committee has identified five fatal crash hotspots linked to poor lane discipline, and around 32 people have died in such crashes since 2023. Safety audits at Panchgaon, SPR Cloverleaf, Ghamroj and Rampura Chowk are expected this month.
Drones were first used on NH-48 in December 2023, and similar drives were held between September and October 2025.
