News: GMDA: Pre-Monsoon Drainage Kept SPR Dry in First Rain-11-07-2026
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) said on Saturday that drainage works completed before the monsoon kept the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) free of waterlogging during the first heavy spell, even as Tuesday’s deluge caused cave-ins and flooding elsewhere in Gurugram.
Chief executive officer PC Meena said vulnerable points were monitored continuously and no waterlogging was reported on the SPR corridor. At other locations under GMDA, water receded within about two hours of the rain stopping, he said.
Before the monsoon, GMDA identified 17 critical locations on the SPR and built road gullies, drainage chambers and stormwater inlets, desilted surface drains and linked them to the master drainage network.
Similar works were done at 42 waterlogging-prone locations across Sectors 1 to 80, including AIT Chowk, Tulip Chowk, Medanta Road and Rezang La Chowk. A small stretch near the Gurudwara on Medanta Road saw temporary accumulation as drain cleaning is still under way.
The authority also cited the restoration, with non-governmental organisations, of a natural creek near Sector 50 along the SPR.
