News: Gas Pipeline, Power Cables Stall Narsinghpur Drainage Work-02-07-2026
A Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) project to lay pipelines under the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway near Narsinghpur has been held up by a gas pipeline and two high-tension power cables found beneath the highway, officials said on Thursday. GMDA has approached the gas and power utilities.
The nearly complete project is meant to end monsoon flooding on the service road near Narsinghpur village, which has been inundated for the past 15 years. Water rises to two to three feet and disrupts traffic on the main highway for days.
Launched in June after talks between the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and GMDA, the plan involves three trenchless pipelines under the highway carrying rainwater from the Delhi-Jaipur side to a newly built drain on the eastern side, running from Radha Krishan Garden towards Badshahpur drain. Site officials found the obstructions last week.
GMDA chief engineer Hemant Yadav said shifting of the gas line was discussed in detail with Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), and the power utility is being approached for the cables. Only three to four metres of pipe remain to be laid, almost 95 percent of the trenchless work is complete, and a connection to the surface drain along the highway has been started, he said.
A GMDA spokesperson said superintending engineer JK Sorot visited the site after light rain on Thursday. Eight high-capacity pumps are in place, comprising four of 50 horsepower (HP), one of 65 HP and three of 70 HP, and sump wells are under construction.
