News: NHAI Wants 35 Illegal Cuts on Dwarka Expressway Shut-30-06-2026
Direct entry onto the Dwarka Expressway’s main carriageway from 35 illegal access cuts is a safety risk, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) says, and it wants them closed. The MoRTH secretary has told the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and the district administration to help on priority, officials said. A traffic police report counts 52 road accidents on the expressway in 2025, with 24 fatalities.
A senior NHAI official said residents and builders made the cuts. Pedestrian guard rails went up on both sides of the highway, yet public resistance keeps 35 open, and closing them is urgent. The matter came up at a meeting chaired by MoRTH secretary V UmaShankar earlier this month, and the official expects closure soon. A plan will be agreed with all stakeholders, with regular patrolling and monitoring to stop new cuts.
The cuts are near Paras Society, Rajendra Park, Dwarka Colony, SN International School, Mahavir Estate, BPTP Amestoria (Sector 102), a petrol pump, Ocus Medley (Basai Chowk), Vatika Sovereign Park, Ramprastha City, Assotech Blithe, Sangwan Brothers Filling Station, Vatika India Next-2, Elan Miracle Mall, Yogendra Construction, Signature Global Society, IMT Road, Infinity Fuel, India World Mart, Pareena Elite, Bharat Nursery, Sanjeev Automobiles, Shiv Shakti Automobiles, Moonlight Liquor, DLF Corporate Greens, CBR Cafe, AVL 36 Society, Krisumi Society, Max Estate, MVN Mall and Shrihari Gas Station.
A GMDA official said service roads on both sides are over 70 percent built, so residents can use them to reach the expressway, and the authority will assist NHAI on priority. GMDA is building 7.5-metre-wide service roads along the 27.26-km expressway for about Rs 99 crore. The contract was awarded on March 15, 2024, and completion is expected by September, except where land acquisition is needed.
