News: Double-Decker Metro-Road Structures at Krishna Chowk-29-06-2026
Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) has picked Krishna Chowk near Palam Vihar and Old Delhi Road near Sector 21 for integrated double-decker metro-road structures in the second phase of the Gurugram Metro project. The revised Rs 1,409 crore tender now includes Rs 200 crore of civil works for them.
The structures will be built as deposit works for the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and integrated with the proposed Sector 9 to Cyber Hub corridor. One level will carry the metro viaduct and the other an elevated road, both on common piers.
GMRL has asked GMDA for Rs 100 crore in advance to start planning, tendering and execution. A letter from the GMRL chief project manager-2 said this is an advance deposit and the final amount payable will depend on actual expenditure.
A senior GMRL official said the revised tender has gone to the World Bank for approval, and the structures will optimise ground-level space and keep traffic moving at both locations. The double-decker concept for parts of the phase two alignment had been announced earlier.
On Old Delhi Road, the letter said GMRL will build only the flyover portion integrated with the viaduct and related structures. GMDA must construct the remainder simultaneously so the whole flyover opens as one project.
A similar structure has been proposed between Ghata and Vatika Chowk on the Sector 56 to Pachgaon route, and the proposal has been submitted to the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation Limited (HMRTC).
