News: Desilting Pending at 87 of 155 Gurugram Hotspots-28-06-2026
Desilting has been completed at 68 of the 155 waterlogging hotspots identified by the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) and is pending at 87, officials said. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts the monsoon will reach Delhi-NCR by the first week of July.
Data accessed by HT shows work has not begun at 29 of the 87 pending sites and is in progress at the others.
The hotspots, spread over eight zones, are graded by how long water stays: minor if it recedes within two hours, moderate if it persists for two to three hours, and hypercritical beyond three hours.
Zone 1 has 13 hotspots, with six done and seven pending. Officials said over 50% of the work is complete at three of them and progress at the others is between 25% and 50%. Zone 2 has 23, with 10 done, four not started and the remainder nearing the halfway mark. In Zone 3, 11 of 18 are complete and four are yet to begin. Zone 4 has three of 15 complete and three not started.
Zone 5 has the most at 29, of which 13 are finished and nine have not begun. Work is complete at eight of 22 in Zone 6, 11 of 21 in Zone 7 and six of 14 in Zone 8.
Officials told HT that around 84 suction tankers, 119 pumps and over 155 personnel will be deployed across the zones to pump out water during rain.
A senior MCG official said most pending sites are already halfway through and the others will be finished in the coming days, with several measures being taken to prevent waterlogging.
