News: Mukesh Sharma Takes Depot Zone, Air Force Gate to Rajnath-28-06-2026
Gurugram MLA Mukesh Sharma met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday, submitting a memorandum on three old issues: the 900-metre restricted zone around the Gurugram-Faridabad ammunition depot, a proposed CRPF Chowk-Kamdhenu Gaushala elevated road, and the Air Force gate between Sectors 17A and 17B. He urged quick decisions with national security paramount.
On the zone, he cited the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s recent observation that the earlier Section 3 notification under the Works of Defence Act, 1903 had lapsed, so a fresh one could issue. Curbs affect Sectors 14, 17 and 18, parts of Sectors 5 and 12A, Old DLF Colony, Dharam Colony, Carterpuri, Rajiv Nagar, Sanjay Gram, Sukhrali Enclave, Ashok Vihar Phase III, the Sheetla Devi Temple area, Amanpura and parts of the Maruti Industrial Area. "Residents continue to pay property tax, electricity and sewerage charges but remain deprived of civic amenities and development works," Sharma said, adding that registrations and approvals suffered. The dispute is over two decades old; the Centre cut the no-construction zone from 900 to 300 metres, yet land use and property rights remain unsettled.
He also sought clearance for the Old Najafgarh Road elevated road, which he said would ease Sheetla Mata Road and cut about 90 minutes of travel to 15, and proposed a nodal officer working with the Haryana government, GMDA and others. Pending for years awaiting clearances, it received no cost, funding or timeline update.
He also sought controlled reopening of the gate between New Palam Vihar and the Delhi-Gurugram road, shut to civilians for years on security grounds. The ministry gave no assurance or timeline.
