News: Gurugram Yet to Clean 159.66 km of Storm Drains-28-06-2026
According to civic data accessed by HT, 375.82 km of storm water drains have been desilted by the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), leaving 159.66 km of its 534.82 km pre-monsoon goal. The city’s drainage network totals 652.34 km.
Officials said all eight zones are active; the revised deadline is June 30, though some work could slide into July. HT earlier reported dates of May 31, June 15 and then June 30. Officials cited tendering delays and expect completion by mid-July.
Left to clean: 17.6 km in Zone 1, 39.65 km in Zone 2, 5.3 km in Zone 3, 8.47 km in Zone 4, 5.9 km in Zone 5, 2.9 km in Zone 6, 32.84 km in Zone 7 and about 47 km in Zone 8. The eight zones form two clusters.
Of 408 conventional rainwater harvesting structures, 227 work and 181 are being repaired; 43 more are being built, 19 done, including Malibu Town, Zone 2 and Palam Vihar. Work orders cover 198 modular projects, which store water in pre-engineered underground modules rather than pits, wells and trenches, and 57 are finished.
Of 49 micro sewage treatment plants (STPs), totalling 2,275 KLD, 44 run and their treated water irrigates parks and green areas; five are being repaired.
Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said the focus is harvesting and micro-STPs, adding "Meanwhile, work on other projects is underway to prevent waterlogging in the city during the monsoon." Repairs to the 181 structures and five plants are nearly complete, officials said.
