News: Gurugram Flood-Prone Spots Reach 57 After 14 New Points-23-06-2026
Fourteen more waterlogging points have been spotted by the district traffic police after rain in the past six weeks, bringing the tally recorded since 2025 to 57, officials said on Monday. Eighteen of the 57 are busy stretches and intersections that clog badly in the monsoon.
Satya Pal Yadav, assistant commissioner of police (traffic headquarters and highways), said a mock drill is planned in the coming days and civic bodies "must ensure drain connectivity issues are fully resolved" before the monsoon.
By location, Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) has six points, Iffco Chowk five, Golf Course Road four, and Mata Road, Golf Course Extension Road (GCER) and Vikas Marg two each. The finalised list says Baliawas, Bhandwari and Caterpuri villages face repeated waterlogging, and that an underpass at Dhanwapur and two flyovers near Rajiv Chowk and Daultabad jam after rain. Areas around four educational institutions and six commercial establishments are listed too.
A senior traffic police official, speaking anonymously, noted that Manesar’s bus stand and other transport hubs see roads choke in heavy downpours, and that three SPR points, near Vatika, Tulip Chowks and the New Whiteland building, are only a few hundred metres apart. Waterlogging also lingers on service lanes of the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway, Delhi-Alwar Road, Sohna Road and the Hero Honda Chowk to Rajiv Chowk stretch.
Civic agencies were told earlier this month to carry out flood mitigation and drainage work before the rains, and the Commissioner of Police reviewed their action plan last week. Suggested fixes: pothole repairs, recarpeting, desilting and drain connectivity. Traffic police also plan parking alternatives near Sikanderpur Metro Station, barricading cuts and synchronised signals.
