News: GMRL Asks GMDA to Remove Two Basai Foot Overbridges-18-06-2026
Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) has asked the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) to pull down two foot overbridges (FOBs) on the Umang Bhardwaj Chowk-Basai stretch, saying they infringe on the metro corridor alignment.
According to a GMRL communication, construction has begun near Sector 37 and Basai village, and the FOBs near Alpine Convent School and Basai pond need to go at the earliest for work to proceed. GMRL is executing phase one of the 30 km project, from Millennium City Centre to Sector 9, along with a spur up to Dwarka Expressway.
The FOBs were built in 2023 under a Rs 114-crore project that also covered road widening, a flyover and a railway bridge over the Delhi-Rewari line. They serve residents of Sectors 37C, 37D, 9, 9A and 10.
A senior GMRL official said the aim is to finish by August 2028. A senior GMDA official said the request is at a preliminary stage and every aspect, including pedestrian movement, will be examined first.
