News: RITES Proposes 20-km Bhondsi-Gurugram Station Metro Route-17-06-2026
RITES India Ltd has proposed a tentative 20-km metro alignment with 17 stations linking Bhondsi on the Gurugram-Sohna Highway to the Gurugram Railway Station, officials said. The original idea was to run the line along Sohna Road, but other options are being explored because of low ridership projections there.
The alignment, recently submitted to the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC), Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) and the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), starts at Bhondsi village. It passes Mohan Nagar, Power Colony, Badshahpur, Sector-67, M3M Urbana Chowk, Sector-65, Golf Course Extension Road, Fresco Square, South City-II, Sector-47, Bakhtawar Chowk, Medanta Hospital, Mini Secretariat, Sadar Bazar, Sector-8 (Prem Mandir) and Bhim Nagar, reaching the railway station through an interchange with the Old Gurugram Metro at Sector-5.
The three agencies are likely to meet soon to weigh ridership, carriageway availability and cost. A senior GMRL official said two more variations will also be considered and that an underground line has been suggested, as the route covers the city’s most densely populated areas.
HMRTC had on March 17 assigned the detailed project report (DPR) to RITES for Rs 1.41 crore.
