News: Gurugram Seeks Bids for Rs 22.5 Crore Garbage Contract-17-06-2026
Gurugram’s Municipal Corporation (MCG) on Tuesday invited bids for a Rs 22.5 crore, six-month door-to-door garbage collection contract covering all eight zones, while its Rs 606 crore five-year contract remains shelved. Earlier this month the Haryana government’s high-powered purchase committee (HPPC), headed by chief minister Nayab Singh Saini, declined to approve rates quoted by the bidders, and MCG said it would re-tender.
Each zone is bid separately: Rs 1.78 crore for Zone 1, Rs 4.76 crore for Zone 2, Rs 4.15 crore for Zone 3, Rs 1.56 crore for Zone 4, Rs 2.90 crore for Zone 5, Rs 2.02 crore for Zone 6, Rs 3.81 crore for Zone 7 and Rs 1.52 crore for Zone 8. One agency per zone will be picked, and to avoid concentration no bidder can get more than two zones. The term is 180 days or until the long-term tender is settled, whichever is sooner; the existing January-June arrangement ends on June 30. Winners must collect from residential, commercial, institutional and informal establishments, segregate waste and carry it to Bandhwari.
An MCG official who requested anonymity said the value is lower because some parts, including segregation components, were dropped; it only bridges the gap until the long-term deal. By comparison, the five-year deal equals roughly Rs 60 crore per six months, nearly three times as much.
Additional commissioner Ravinder Yadav said MCG had expected the approved long-term contract to replace the stopgap by now; once halted, a short tender became necessary, and a fresh five-year tender will follow. Since MCG ended the previous contractor’s contract in June 2024 over alleged poor performance, tenders, approvals and pre-bid meetings have not yielded a permanent system.
