News: Rs 52.56 Crore Sanctioned to Rebuild Old Gurugram Roads-16-06-2026
Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini’s high-powered works committee on Monday sanctioned the rebuilding of two major Old Gurugram roads, officials said: Basai Chowk to Old Railway Road near Sadar Bazar, and Old Railway Road to IFFCO Chowk. The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) put the combined cost at Rs 52.56 crore, with Rs 27.08 crore for the first and Rs 25.48 crore for the second.
A senior GMDA official said the roughly 4 km Basai section, passing Basai Road and Bhuteshwar Temple, was already out to tender and drew three bidders; the committee took it up at its Chandigarh meeting on Monday afternoon. Works include a fresh carriageway and stormwater drains and footpaths on both sides. With no drainage now, the road regularly floods in the monsoon, troubling neighbouring colonies. The second road runs through Maharaja Agrasen Chowk, Mahavir Chowk, MG Road and Maharana Pratap Chowk.
Beneficiaries should include Basai, Basai Enclave, Bhawani Enclave, Ravi Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Devilal Colony, Firoz Gandhi Colony, Baldev Nagar, Madanpuri, Veer Nagar, Nai Abadi, Char-Aath Marla, Shakti Nagar, Arjun Nagar, Ram Nagar, Shivaji Nagar, Barf Khana, Old DLF Colony, sectors 14 and 17, Chandan Nagar, Sukhrali Enclave and Sukhrali.
The sanction caps months of steps. GMDA unveiled the plan in December 2025 at about Rs 55 crore, tenders followed in January 2026 with three bidders, and in May 2026 a proposal for special repair of the 9.5-km corridor, estimated near Rs 52 crore, went to the state.
Basai Road in particular has been in bad shape for two years, with deep potholes and repeated resident complaints; in places it caved in because sewage infrastructure beneath failed, since repaired.
