News: Ambedkar Chowk to Get Underpass Along With Flyover-15-06-2026
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has revised its plan for Ambedkar Chowk, the junction of Sectors 45, 46, 51 and 52, and will now build an underpass in addition to the flyover already proposed.
Under the new plan, the flyover will run from Sector 45 towards the Gurugram-Sohna Highway and the underpass from Sector 45 towards Artemis Hospital. A senior official said both will be built together because traffic is rising on all four approaches and the authority wants to avoid further construction at the junction later.
The change follows a memorandum from the Sector 45 Resident Welfare Association (RWA) to GMDA Chief Executive Officer PC Meena seeking an underpass towards Artemis Chowk. Its general secretary, Puneet Pahwa, said simultaneous construction would spare residents repeated congestion.
Executive Engineer Amit Godara confirmed that a consultancy firm has been asked to prepare the detailed project report (DPR) for the underpass. Officials noted that it will need separate state government approval.
The flyover was cleared by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, and a tender was floated on May 7 at an estimated cost of around Rs 32.5 crore. The proposal has been under discussion since 2024 and went through several revisions of design, cost and alignment.
GMDA is also considering an underpass at Bhakhtawar Chowk, alongside Gurugram Metro Rail Limited’s (GMRL) proposal for a double-decker corridor there, with a flyover and a metro line above it on the same pillars. GMRL has proposed a similar structure on Old Delhi Road near Sector 21.
