News: Bandhwari Fresh Waste Tender Recalled for Fifth Time-13-06-2026
For the fifth time in seven months, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has recalled its tender for processing fresh waste at the Bandhwari landfill after no agency bid, raising doubts over how the city will handle the nearly 2,200-2,300 metric tonnes generated daily.
The tender has been floated again. Officials said the estimated cost, earlier Rs 29 crore, was revised to Rs 40 crore under the tender reissued in May. Joint commissioner Preetpal Singh said the processing rate has been raised from Rs 250 to Rs 450 per tonne to draw bidders.
The failure comes despite directions from Union housing and urban affairs minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who inspected the landfill in May, told MCG to engage additional agencies and said no fresh waste should be dumped there. He also directed Faridabad officials to stop dumping at the site and asked authorities to identify a new site for fresh waste processing. MCG officials said the Municipal Corporation of Faridabad (MCF) has been asked to make alternative arrangements.
Without a fresh waste facility, incoming garbage keeps adding to the legacy pile. Officials said nearly 1.8 million metric tonnes lie at the roughly 30-acre landfill, where two agencies are processing legacy waste, and that approximately 2,300-2,400 metric tonnes of fresh municipal waste is generated and transported daily. They did not disclose how much has been processed so far, but said an additional agency would help meet the 2027 target for clearing the site.
