News: Gurugram Metro Phase Two Civil Tender After World Bank Nod-12-06-2026
The World Bank has cleared the civil tender for Phase Two of the Gurugram Metro, from Sector 9 to CyberHub, Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) said on Thursday. A senior official said the tender, estimated at around Rs 1,400 crore, covers 14 stations and the rail corridor. Managing director Chander Shekhar Khare said it will be issued within a week as the groundwork is complete.
The phase involves a 13km line with 14 stations, including Sector 7, Sector 4, Sector 5, Ashok Vihar, Sector 3, Bajghera Road, Palam Vihar Extension, Palam Vihar, Sector 23A, Sector 22, Udyog Vihar Phase 4, Udyog Vihar Phase 5, Cyber City and one on the spur towards Gurugram railway station. An interchange at Shankar Chowk will link it with the Rapid Metro and the Namo Bharat Rail, GMRL said.
Across both phases the Gurugram Metro is 30.7km long, with 28 stations, a depot in Sector 33 and two spurs, one towards Sector 102 near the Dwarka Expressway and the other towards the railway station.
Khare said the depot tender, floated in March at an estimated Rs 409 crore for a depot and workshop, will be re-floated on priority because only one bidder was found eligible.
To speed up Phase One, he has asked officials to press the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to shift utilities between Hero Honda Chowk and Umang Bhardwaj Chowk, where a few structures and a power substation need removal.
For Phase Two along Sushil Aima Road in Palam Vihar, GMRL and the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) agreed that work on the Leg One drain would be taken up on priority. Khare said GMDA has already floated a tender to reconstruct the drain.
Construction of the 13km Phase One, from Millennium City Centre to Sector 9, began in September last year. The Rs 1,277 crore project is due by August 2028 and nearly 8% of the work is done, according to GMRL.
