News: Sewer Repairs, Cave-Ins Slow Basai to Pataudi Chowk-10-06-2026
Commuters on the 2.5km stretch between Basai Chowk and Pataudi Chowk are facing delays because of ongoing repair work and sewage overflow. Residents claim at least three cave-ins have occurred on the road in the past six months.
Raj Kumar of Sector 9 said peak-hour congestion builds at several points from outside the Civil Hospital to the Pataudi Chowk signal, and that recent cave-ins took place near a private vehicles showroom and along the Ravi Nagar road. A spot check by HT on Monday found the road barricaded at four points for desilting. Daily commuter Ahsas Taluja said one-side restrictions over the past two weeks have lengthened travel time on a road already marked by sewage and deep potholes, where knee-deep water collects in peak monsoon.
Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) officials acknowledged the overflow and cave-ins, attributing them to pending desilting and the low-lying terrain. A senior official said lining work to stabilise the sewer on a 400-metre stretch has been under way for 10 days and desilting will follow. He gave no completion date but said faulty points have been identified and de-watering pumps brought in.
Assistant commissioner of police (traffic west-1) Sanjay Kumar said enforcement has been stepped up, illegal parking is being checked and commuters have been advised to use routes via Sadar Bazar and the Dwarka Expressway.
For the longer term, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has submitted a mobility proposal for the stretch up to Old Railway Road to the Haryana government, where it is under discussion.
