News: Civil Hospital’s Rs 10 Crore Repairs Face First Monsoon Test-09-06-2026
Repair, renovation and beautification works worth nearly Rs 10 crore, carried out over the past six months at the Civil Hospital in Sector 10, should be enough to stop the flooding and leakage that have troubled it for years, Gurugram health officials have said. They admit, however, that the outcome will be known only when heavy rain arrives.
The district health department said the money went into repairing walls and roofs, rebuilding damaged boundary walls, shaded parking, interlocking tiles, two parks and waterproofing of buildings. It has sought another Rs 3.92 crore for further renovation and solar panels over the new parking area.
Every monsoon, rainwater enters parts of the complex, disrupting patient movement and services. Health officials blamed clogged sewer lines and inadequate drainage around the hospital. Civil surgeon Dr Lokveer Singh said the drainage situation outside also needs attention. The hospital lies in a low-lying area, he said, and the lines are often clogged and cannot carry the area’s load, so MCG officials are called every few months to clear them.
Health officials said it remains unclear whether the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) or the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is responsible for the network.
MCG sub-divisional officer Waseem Akram said the sewer line behind the hospital has been desilted, but added that the three-foot-wide line may not have been designed for peak monsoon loads. GMDA spokesperson Neha Sharma said the agency would address the issue if a complaint is received. Neither agency outlined a permanent solution. Health officials maintained that widening the sewer network is the only long-term answer.
