News: GMDA to Use Robots to Survey Gurugram Master Road Drains-09-06-2026
Surface drains along master roads will be inspected by robots after June 15 to check desilting work and locate bottlenecks that could cause monsoon waterlogging, Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) officials said on Monday.
The decision was taken at a monsoon preparedness review chaired by additional CEO Vishwajeet Choudhary. Officials said around 70% of the 120km surface drain network has been cleaned. Choudhary said the survey would show the actual ground position and any bottleneck found would be removed.
About 40 pumps of different capacities are to be deployed across the city and made functional by June 30. CCTV cameras will monitor the pumps and two operators will be on duty round the clock, with tractor-mounted pumps and tankers on standby for emergencies.
GMDA will also work with builders and RWAs that face recurring waterlogging. Choudhary said several condominiums have internal drains not connected to the master stormwater network or have non-functional rainwater harvesting systems, and those approaching the authority would be helped on priority.
A draft drainage plan prepared last year had recommended pumps at Surya Vihar and downstream of Palam Vihar on the Leg one drain, at Millennium City Centre, Sector 29 and downstream of Atul Kataria Chowk on the Leg two drain, and mobile pumps along Leg three.
Separately, NHAI chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav chaired a review on Monday of monsoon preparedness across Delhi NCR. GMDA CEO PC Meena, who also holds charge of FMDA, attended. A senior GMDA official said it was submitted that NHAI teams need to work with GMDA on the ground to prevent jams and waterlogging.
