News: MoRTH to Decide on Hero Honda-Umang Bhardwaj Elevated Road-08-06-2026
Whether the 2.5-km stretch between Hero Honda Chowk and Umang Bhardwaj Chowk gets a surface road or an elevated one will be settled soon by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), to which the Haryana government has sent its proposal. A senior GMDA official said a meeting chaired by the MoRTH secretary is proposed next week for a final decision.
The official said the state has recommended an elevated road. The stretch is part of the Gurugram-Pataudi-Rewari highway under NHAI, so the ministry has the final say. Haryana industries minister Rao Narbir Singh had directed GMDA in March to build an elevated road, estimated at around Rs 181 crore, and GMDA sent the proposal to the state in the first week of May.
The upgrade has been stuck for seven years because the design could not be finalised. In 2022, GMDA decided NHAI should build the road as deposit work. Earlier plans ranged from widening to three-lane carriageways with two-lane service roads and a flyover at Umang Bhardwaj Chowk, to flyovers or underpasses at Khandsa chowk, Sector-37 chowk and Umang Bhardwaj Chowk, and a double-decker road with a metro line on top. The final plan is for an elevated road and a separate metro line.
A senior GMDA official said the Punjab and Haryana High Court has set aside a shop owner’s petition against acquisition of his land on the main carriageway. An NHAI official said the revenue department has been asked to issue an acquisition notice, after which the structure will be demolished.
