News: DMRC Seeks Nod for Parking Complex at Guru Dronacharya-02-06-2026
A multi-level car parking (MLCP) facility with commercial space has been proposed at Guru Dronacharya Metro station by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) under the Urban Challenge Fund (UCF), a central scheme promoting revenue-generating urban infrastructure. DMRC has asked the Haryana town and country planning department for approval to use 2,513 sq mtrs of land.
The preliminary proposal envisages six levels with 60 percent ground coverage and 30 sq mtrs per parking slot, along with commercial areas, smart parking, EV charging and a pedestrian link to the station through a FOB or subway.
In a letter dated May 26 to the department’s additional chief secretary, Amit Kumar Jain, director (operations and services), said the station has an average daily footfall of approximately 34,295 passengers and that limited parking causes vehicles to spill onto adjacent roads. The project is proposed under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model.
After approval, DMRC will prepare a detailed project report for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). A senior DTCP official said the proposal is under consideration in Chandigarh.
The fund, approved in February this year, envisages Rs 4 lakh crore of urban investment with central assistance of Rs 1 lakh crore, according to MoHUA.
