News: SPR Leg 4 Storm Drain 95% Done, Finish by June 15-01-06-2026
The 4.5km Leg 4 storm water drain along the southern peripheral road (SPR) is 95% complete and will be finished by June 15, Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) officials said on Sunday.
CEO PC Meena inspected the drain and other storm water works on Sunday, a spokesperson said. The visit came a day before Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini was due in the city. Union minister for housing and urban affairs Manohar Lal Khattar has also asked GMDA to plan a drain carrying storm water from the city to the Yamuna via Sohna, Nuh and Palwal.
Leg 4 is being built parallel to National Highway-48, from Vatika Chowk to NH 48. It is about 9 metres wide and 3 metres deep, with a capacity of 1,400 cusecs. Officials said it will relieve the Badshahpur Drain (Leg 3), with excess rainwater diverted to it through a gate system when needed.
Meena also visited the drain under construction near Tau Devi Lal Stadium, likewise due by June 15, which is expected to reduce waterlogging near the Medanta underpass and Medanta road. Officials said a new drain will carry rainwater collecting near the highway straight to Leg 3 from the outskirts of Khandsa village. He reviewed three barrels being built beneath NH-48 with trenchless technology near the Sunbeam Factory at Narsinghpur, and in Sector 37D asked that a junction of drains be finished before the monsoon.
