News: Four New Substations Planned in Gurugram by 2028-31-05-2026
With Gurugram’s 66kV transmission network at nearly 80% of capacity, the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited (HVPNL) is pressing ahead with four new substations to relieve overloading, officials said.
Two 220kV substations are planned at Badshahpur and Sector 52. Proposals for two 66kV substations, at Sushant Lok Phase-I and Sector 50, have been sent to Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (DHBVN). Officials put the cost at Rs 90 crore to Rs 100 crore and said land is available at all four sites.
Anil Malik, HVPNL executive engineer, Gurugram, said the substations are expected to be operational by 2028.
Officials said 220kV and 66kV substations already exist at Badshahpur and Sector 52, and the proposed facilities will add 33kV-level infrastructure.
A senior HVPNL official, requesting anonymity, said peak load rises by up to 15-20% every year. The 66kV level has an installed capacity of 1,890 megavolt-amperes (MVA), and between 1,400 and 1,500 MVA has been reached this year.
The plan follows a blackout of up to five hours on the night of May 22 after a current transformer blast at the Sector 72 substation. Peak demand crossed 2,550 megawatts on Thursday, the highest so far.
Officials added that DHBVN must speed up 33kV substations, none of which exist in Gurugram’s two circles.
