News: GMDA to Study Nelson Mandela Marg Road Link to Ghata-27-05-2026
A proposed road from Nelson Mandela Marg in Delhi could be taken up to Ghata village on Gurugram-Faridabad Road so that it meets the planned Greater SPR (Southern Peripheral Road), with the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) set to examine whether this is feasible, officials said on Tuesday.
The idea came up at a meeting at the GMDA office with representatives of Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL). A senior GMDA official said DIAL’s report had proposed a road from Nelson Mandela Marg to Khushboo Chowk. GMDA CEO PC Meena suggested extending it to Ghata Chowk instead, so motorists could reach Manesar by the Greater SPR without using NH48. The authority will soon discuss the alignment with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
Also discussed was linking the Delhi-Jaipur Highway and Old Delhi Road to the Dwarka Expressway through Rezangla Chowk, which DIAL’s proposal says could cut traffic load on the highway by nearly 9%. GMDA pointed out that the existing road in Chauma village is around 10 metres wide and is also meant to carry the Metro line from Rezangla Chowk to Dwarka, while the proposed Old Gurugram Metro corridor will run along Sushil Aima Road, making an elevated road difficult before Metro designs are final. The CEO ordered a ground-level feasibility survey.
On the Greater SPR, engineers said land acquisition by Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikran is in its final stages and cost estimates will follow. The road will start near Ambience Mall on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway, pass through MG Road, Gurugram-Faridabad Road and Gurugram-Sohna Road, and rejoin the highway near Manesar.
