News: GMCBL Seeks 500 More E-Buses for Gurugaman City Bus-27-05-2026
A proposal seeking 500 additional buses for the Gurugaman city bus service has gone to the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs under the urban renewal fund, officials aware of the matter said. The Gurugram Metropolitan City Bus Limited (GMCBL) routed the request through the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), which submitted it to the ministry.
GMCBL CEO Vishwajit Chaudhary said more buses are needed to extend public transport coverage across the city. He added that 100 e-buses are due to arrive within the next two months and their routes have already been finalised. Officials said those 100 buses are expected in one to two months under the PM e-seva scheme.
At present GMCBL runs 150 buses in Gurugram and 50 in Faridabad under the Gurugaman service. The proposal says a shortage of buses has held back expansion and that a larger fleet would improve links to several villages, sectors and colonies in old and new Gurugram.
On infrastructure, the corporation plans e-depots in sectors 52-53, 65, 103 and 112, and another in Manesar. The existing depot in sectors 52-53 is to be converted into an e-bus depot. Officials said GMCBL is working with HSVP on the Sector 65 depot, while the Sector 103 depot is proposed on about 7.25 acres. Detailed project reports (DPRs) are being prepared for depots in Naharpur Kasan and Sector 112. Developing five e-depots is estimated to cost Rs 85 crore.
The proposal puts the running cost of 100 e-buses at Rs 55.47 per kilometre. Operating 500 buses for 12 years would cost around Rs 2,154 crore, assuming each covers 180 kilometres daily, or 90,000 kilometres a day for the fleet.
