News: Bandhwari Fresh Waste Tender Reissued at Rs 450 per Tonne-26-05-2026
After three earlier rounds of bidding drew no takers, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has reissued a tender, estimated at Rs 40 crore, for scientific processing of fresh waste at the Bandhwari landfill. Bidding will open on May 30, officials said.
Joint commissioner Preetpal Singh said the rates have been revised this time. According to officials, the processing rate has gone up from Rs 250 to Rs 450 per tonne. Singh said the tender would streamline operations at the site and bring the civic body closer to its goal of clearing the landfill by early 2027.
Gurugram and Faridabad together produce nearly 2,200 to 2,300 metric tonnes of fresh waste a day, while only about 1,400 to 1,500 metric tonnes are being processed daily at present. Legacy waste processing has already been awarded to two agencies. Municipal officials said the landfill, spread over nearly 30 acres, currently holds around 84,000 tonnes of legacy waste.
Fresh waste is recently generated municipal or household waste that is collected and processed quickly, usually within a week. Officials said it begins decomposing within 30 days if left untreated, which makes scientific processing harder.
The Department of Urban Local Bodies (ULB) approved the proposal for the site near the landfill in September last year, and in December the National Green Tribunal (NGT) criticised delays in issuing the tender.
Gurugram-based environmentalist Vaishali Rana said tenders are floated every year, agencies bid or withdraw, and unprocessed waste keeps piling up. She called for a concrete solution.
