News: New Gurugram Police Chief Sets Safety, Tech Agenda-25-05-2026
Gurugram’s newly appointed police commissioner, Sibash Kabiraj, has listed law and order, cybercrime response, women’s safety and traffic management as his immediate priorities, along with responsive, technology-driven and citizen-friendly policing. He set these out in an interview with HT’s Leena Dhankhar, adding that preventive policing and the functioning of police stations would also get attention.
To raise police visibility, Kabiraj said patrolling would be intensified, with PCR deployment, motorcycle teams and strategic nakabandis. The Haryana-112 response system is to be strengthened through better monitoring and technology integration. Community policing and regular interaction with RWAs and citizens will be stepped up to build trust.
On cybercrime, he said Cyber Police Stations and Cyber Crime Units are being reinforced with trained personnel, technical tools and digital forensic support. Coordination with banks and cyber agencies is being improved for quick action in fraud cases, and awareness campaigns and training are being expanded.
He confirmed that tenant, worker and PG verification drives would be intensified in urban villages, PG clusters, industrial areas and vulnerable locations, backed by stronger digital verification systems.
Calling women’s safety a top priority, he said night patrolling, Durga Shakti deployment, CCTV monitoring and PCR presence in vulnerable areas are being strengthened. Strict action against harassment and repeat offenders will continue, and Women Help Desks and emergency response will be improved.
Traffic, he said, needs close coordination with civic agencies. The focus will be on scientific traffic analysis, better enforcement, diversion planning and promoting carpooling, with advance joint planning for monsoon disruptions and waterlogging.
His long-term vision is smart policing through CCTV integration, AI-supported surveillance, data-driven enforcement, predictive policing and digital monitoring, alongside scientific investigation and capacity building.
Against narcotics and organised crime, he promised intelligence-based operations, technical surveillance and inter-agency coordination targeting drug suppliers, gangs and interstate networks, together with awareness programmes on drug abuse.
Regular coordination meetings with RWAs, market associations, industries and citizens will be strengthened, he said, as community participation improves local intelligence and traffic discipline.
In his message to residents, Kabiraj said safety is a shared responsibility of police and citizens. He wants every resident to feel confident approaching the police and to see the force as "a support system" that is accessible, responsive and accountable. He urged people to stay alert, report suspicious activity promptly, follow traffic rules and take part in community policing.
