News: HVPNL Builds 220kV Substation at Sector 75A, Gurugram-23-05-2026
Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited (HVPNL) has begun constructing a 220kV substation at Sector 75A and will soon commission a 66kV substation in Sector 37 Part II, officials aware of the matter said on Friday. Both use gas-insulated technology, which needs less space than air-insulated systems, and will cost Rs 97 crore together.
A senior HVPNL official, who did not wish to be named, said the 220kV unit will improve supply between Sohna Road and the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway. Societies from Sector 69 to Sector 78 should see fewer outages and less overloading, and the unit can support upcoming residential and township projects.
It replaces a defunct substation in Sector 77 that could not be run for eight years and was scrapped because of land litigation over compensation between landowners and the Haryana government.
Kushal Kumar Sarkar, HVPN’s superintendent engineer (Gurugram), said construction began last month and should take 18 months. The Rs 75 crore substation, on a four-acre plot, will draw power from the 400kV substation on Sohna Road and the 220kV substation in Panchgaon.
He said the 66kV substation should be commissioned in 10-15 days. It was delayed by several months after CAQM imposed a fine for violating pollution norms and work had to stop. Costing Rs 22 crore on a 2.5-acre plot, it is meant to ensure uninterrupted supply to the Sector 37 industry hub.
HVPNL officials called it one of the most delayed projects in the state. The work order was given in 2021 with an October 2025 deadline, but other processes began only in 2024 because of technical issues across departments.
