News: Embankment, Pumps to Keep Daultabad Substation Dry-22-05-2026
An embankment will be built around the 400 kV Daultabad power substation to prevent monsoon waterlogging, officials of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Ltd (HVPNL) said. Around eight 20-horsepower dewatering pumps have been deployed, with more to follow if needed.
The substation, which supplies almost half of Gurugram, was heavily waterlogged last monsoon. Officials of the district administration, GMDA and HVPNL inspected it earlier this week.
GMDA executive engineer Vikram Singh said on Thursday that the embankment, or ring bund, was decided on after the inspection. HVPNL has been requested to construct it, and GMDA will provide the soil.
The facility is near the Delhi-Gurugram border, close to the Badshahpur drain. HVPNL officials said it sits in a low lying area where surrounding farmland is submerged during the monsoon. In heavy rain, water from the neighbouring Najafgarh drain, which has limited capacity, flows back and adds to the flooding.
KK Sarkar, superintending engineer, HVPNL, said an internal drain has been dug along the walls to divert water, and transformers and machinery have been raised by around two feet. Joints in the boundary wall through which water had seeped have been sealed and reinforced.
