News: MCG to Hire 52 More Sweeping Machines, Fleet to 72-22-05-2026
The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) will add 52 mechanised road sweeping machines to its fleet, raising the total to 72, officials said. The machines will be taken on rent and not bought, and tenders have been floated.
The civic body now runs 20 large machines. Under the plan, 18 large machines, four medium-sized units and additional smaller machines will be added to tackle dust pollution and improve cleanliness.
Additional commissioner Ravinder Yadav said the existing 20 machines work at night on major roads, and the 52 new ones will be deployed under a new operation arrangement. Monthly targets have been set under the city action plan to make key stretches dust-free. He said shortage of resources has been a major hurdle to consistent dust mitigation.
The procurement falls under the Rs 440-crore mechanised and manual sweeping project, which received administrative approval from the urban local bodies department earlier in May. The city will be split into two clusters, zones 1 and 2 as Cluster 1 and zones 3 and 4 as Cluster 2.
