News: Gurugram to Add Safety Fixtures at 150 Risky Spots-14-05-2026
Roughly 150 accident-prone, high-traffic spots in Gurugram, especially near schools and major junctions, will get safety upgrades under a Rs 55.38 lakh tender from the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), officials said on Wednesday.
The district road safety committee (DRSC) and traffic police recommended the plan; sites came from school principals’ feedback on roads outside campuses and stretch-wise crash records. They include government schools in Bhondsi, Kadipur and Old Gurugram, and Hero Honda Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Shankar Chowk, Kanhai-T point and Ambedkar Chowk.
Over 12 months the tender lists 294 fixed railings against jaywalking, 120 advance direction boards, 150 retro-reflective warning signboards, 225 thermoplastic markings for lane discipline and speed control and 200 reflective studs, along with bollards, cat’s-eye reflectors and speed-calming measures on arterial roads. Bids are invited on the state website till May 19, then technical evaluation precedes the work order.
A senior MCG official, requesting anonymity, said phased work follows Indian Roads Congress guidelines, adding warning signs and rumble strips ahead of school access zones; dedicated horizontal and vertical signage, he said, will guide caretakers to pickup and drop-off zones, deter unauthorised parking and ease congestion.
At the April DRSC meeting additional deputy commissioner Sonu Bhatt asked the education department to list accident-prone school stretches before May’s meeting. Dushyant Thakran of Rajkiya Prathmik Shikshak Sangh said last year’s waterlogging at schools in Naharpur Rupa, Khandsa and Samaspur needs urgent attention before the monsoon.
