News: MCG Plans Micro Data Centre to Track Water Network-14-05-2026
The Municipal Corporation Gurugram (MCG) plans an advanced micro data centre at its new Manesar office to monitor the city’s water supply, sewer network and streetlights digitally. Officials claim residents will see benefits within six months.
Modelled on smart utility management in Odisha, where MCG officials recently studied a system running in 11 cities, the centre will map every colony, sector and pipeline to keep real-time records of flow, capacity, authorised connections and daily supply. Cost, funding and tendering details have not been disclosed.
Flow meters at boosting stations and tubewells will be linked to a SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system so engineers can spot leakages and pressure problems remotely. Each station and tubewell will get a unique ID and sensors. Motor failure, power trips, overflow or low water levels will trigger automatic alerts with GPS-based location.
MCG has started collecting raw data from the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and the irrigation department. Water quality will also be tracked. Sewer and streetlight monitoring will follow in the second phase.
Chief engineer Vijay Dhaka said manual switching of motors would no longer be needed and the facility should be operational in the coming months.
