News: Rao Inderjit Singh Reviews Gurugram Drains, Landfill-13-05-2026
Rao Inderjit Singh, Union minister of state for statistics and programme implementation, used a Tuesday review of Gurugram’s District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) at the Mini Secretariat to push for lasting answers to civic problems and better delivery of welfare schemes. Deputy commissioner Uttam Singh, MLAs Bimla Chaudhary (Pataudi) and Mukesh Sharma (Gurugram), and senior officials were present.
Singh asked for timely, good-quality work and told reporters, "Government schemes must reach the last person in the queue." Roads, drinking water, health, education and infrastructure, he said, should get priority through coordination among departments.
On waterlogging, he called for long-term steps such as reuse of treated water and groundwater recharge, and ordered an inquiry into encroachments by stormwater drains near Ambience Mall. GMDA CEO PC Meena told HT that a fresh drain line along Southern Peripheral Road, expected by June 15, should ease waterlogging between Subhash Chowk and Rajiv Chowk, and a box drain by Medanta Hospital is likely in 25 days.
MCG Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said nearly Rs 2 crore in challans have been issued over illegal construction and demolition waste dumping on the Gurugram-Faridabad road, of which about Rs 1.5 crore has been recovered. Singh also directed periodic groundwater testing near the Bandhwari landfill, where roughly 1.4 million metric tonnes of legacy waste remain, to be cleared by February next year.
