News: Rs 52 Crore Basai Chowk-IFFCO Chowk Road Upgrade-12-05-2026
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has sought state government approval for special repair and upgradation of a 9.5-kilometre road from Basai Chowk near the Dwarka Expressway to IFFCO Chowk through Old Gurugram, officials said. Work is expected to start soon after clearance.
A senior GMDA official said the proposal is with the high-powered committee chaired by the chief minister. The aim is better connectivity between the Dwarka Expressway and the Delhi-Jaipur Highway.
The Rs 52 crore project has two parts. Around Rs 20 crore is earmarked for Basai Chowk to Old Railway Road via Basai Road, where stormwater drains and footpaths will be built besides relaying the road. Officials said nearly 20 colonies along this stretch are affected by flooding in the monsoon. The remaining Rs 32 crore is for reconstruction and relaying from Old Railway Road through Maharaja Agrasen Chowk, Mahavir Chowk, MG Road and Maharana Pratap Chowk up to IFFCO Chowk.
Executive engineer Amit Godara said encroachments along the corridor will be removed. Officials said the project is more urgent as second-phase metro construction in Old Gurugram is expected to begin soon.
