News: New 100 MLD Plant to Lift Gurugram Water Supply to 770 MLD-09-05-2026
A new 100 MLD water treatment plant (WTP) at Chandu Budhera will be completed by the end of May, raising the city’s supply capacity from 670 MLD to 770 MLD before peak summer demand, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) said on Saturday.
Built at a cost of Rs 52.5 crore, the plant will start supplying water in June, officials said. GMDA currently supplies 670 MLD through its plants at Basai (270 MLD) and Chandu Budhera (470 MLD).
Rajender Jangra, chief engineer, infrastructure two division, said this fifth plant would help meet peak demand, with the focus on tail-end areas that face shortages for some days each summer.
Officials also said the missing water pipeline under the Dwarka Expressway at the Central Peripheral Road (CPR) has been laid. Executive engineer Abhinav Verma said the pipes are now being connected, testing will begin by May 15, and it will take another 15 days to make the line operational. This will allow the Sector 72 boosting station to function and augment supply in sectors 58 to 73.
The 262 MLD station will reduce reliance on tankers in those sectors, which are now served through the Sector 51 boosting station, officials said.
