News: Tau Devi Lal Stadium Upgrade Revived at Rs 400 Crore-07-05-2026
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has revived its plan to turn the Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Sector 38 into a world-class venue, proposing international-standard cricket and football grounds and several new facilities at an estimated Rs 400 crore.
Officials said the state government has approved the proposal. The tender is expected to be finalised by the end of this month and floated early next month.
A senior GMDA official said the cricket ground would get new turf, better seating, floodlights for night matches and a new pavilion meeting international standards. The football stadium will be upgraded with new turf and a seating capacity of 15,000 so that international matches can be held.
An international-sized swimming pool, badminton courts and lawn tennis facilities are also planned, along with a new synthetic athletics track.
The official said Haryana is a "sports powerhouse" and Gurugram’s facilities should reflect that for professionals and amateurs alike, adding that the city could host international matches once the work is done.
One of the largest government-owned sports facilities in Gurugram, the stadium was developed by Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran and later transferred to GMDA. An earlier Rs 634-crore redevelopment plan had also received state approval but was delayed as the authority prioritised infrastructure works.
