News: Gurugram Streetlights to Run on Mobile App, 25,000 First-07-05-2026
The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) plans to operate and monitor street lights through a mobile application, officials said, to speed up maintenance and strengthen smart city infrastructure.
In the first phase, nearly 25,000 lights in colonies, old residential areas and villages, particularly those fixed on walls, rooftops or electricity poles, will be linked to the system.
At present, faulty lights often stay off for days. Control panels connected to the app will let officials switch lights on or off remotely, monitor them in real time and receive automatic alerts when one fails. A whole sector or colony can be controlled together.
Some lights in newer sectors and on highways run on timers or sensors, but many in older colonies and villages are manual or semi-manual. MCG chief engineer Vijay Dhaka said a detailed plan has been prepared.
The city has around 125,000 street lights, and the civic body intends to bring most of them under a SCADA-based (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) centralised monitoring system gradually. Around 50% will be integrated in the first phase, officials said.
