News: Sector 29 Traders Cite Bad Roads, Sewage and Garbage-06-05-2026
Traders in Sector 29, among Gurugram’s main commercial and entertainment hubs, warned on Tuesday that broken roads, overflowing sewage and unchecked garbage dumping are cutting footfall and eroding the area’s appeal.
A deputation of the Sector 29 market RWA met HSVP estate officer two Anupama Malik at her office and handed over a memorandum seeking urgent improvements. The HSVP market, which adjoins Leisure Valley Park, houses several restaurants, bars, pubs and hotels and usually draws heavy crowds in the evenings and on weekends, locals said.
Amit Thakran, who owns a shop cum office (SCO) there, said roads and parking are in very poor shape and people have begun looking elsewhere to spend their weekends. He called the sewage system dysfunctional and said the whole sector floods during the monsoon.
Another business owner, who asked not to be named, said thousands of tonnes of construction waste and other garbage had been dumped on vacant plots.
The association said HSVP has started relaying roads but the work must be speeded up and all parking areas resurfaced. Thakran said a team was later sent to assess the market.
A senior HSVP official said footpaths will also be built. Malik said a tender for cleaning and maintenance would be floated shortly. She told the association to follow solid waste management norms and asked shopkeepers to remove encroachments voluntarily before an enforcement drive.
