News: Gurugram Metro Phase 2: Rs 2,800 Crore World Bank Loan-04-05-2026
A senior official at Gurugram Metropolitan Rail Limited (GMRL) said its request to the World Bank for about Rs 2,800 crore for the Gurugram Metro’s second phase is at an advanced stage and approval is probable by July-end. The loan covers 60% of project cost.
World Bank officials held detailed talks in Gurugram and visited Panchkula last week. The official said the bank has parameters to meet, talks were very positive, and the Department of Economic Affairs should meet in July and clear it. GMRL sent the proposal and tender documents in February. Another senior official said the amount, excluding taxes, is Rs 2,800 crore but may rise with project costs.
GMRL has finished environmental and social studies and follows transit-orientated development and last-mile connectivity norms required for funding. It has begun preparing for construction and asked HSVP to demarcate the stretch from Sector 9 to Cyber Hub, where the line ends.
