News: MCG to Lay 50-km Treated Wastewater Network in Gurugram-29-04-2026
A 50-kilometre pipeline network to carry treated wastewater for horticulture across several sectors is being planned by the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), officials said on Tuesday.
The lines will take non-potable water from sewage treatment plants (STPs) to Sectors 15, 31, 38, 46, 47, 57, Malibu Town, Rosewood City, Palam Vihar and Sushant Lok 2, and should be operational within two months. They will branch off the recycled water backbone built by the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), which had developed a 120km network by March 2025.
Executive engineer (MCG) Tushar Yadav said some tenders have been floated and others will follow in the coming days. Existing infrastructure in sectors such as 46 and 47 will also be upgraded. The total cost and funding source have not been disclosed to HT.
One tender issued on Monday, reviewed by HT, allocates Rs 58.26 lakh for a line to parks in Sector 57 under Ward 14. These sites are currently watered by tankers under contracts given to private companies, officials said.
Officials linked the plan to groundwater depletion and rising demand for potable water. It also comes amid complaints of untreated sewage being dumped in open plots, including a Sector-71 case involving private tankers reported earlier by HT.
