News: Gurugram Maps Sewage Outlets Draining into Stormwater Drains-24-04-2026
Officials said on Friday that civic bodies have mapped the sewage outlets feeding Gurugram’s stormwater drains, under the Yamuna Clean Action roadmap.
Heavy flows were found in leg-I at two points near Rezangla Chowk and Cyber Hub and at Rajeev Nagar by CRPF camp chowk; in leg-II at an unidentified spot in the box drain; and in leg-III at six places across Khandsa, Behrampur and Ullawas. So far 21 of 56 points are diverted and cut off. Most of 37 illegal connections on leg-III (Badshahpur), around 26-km from Ghata to Sector 99, were found in January.
The city’s development authority (GMDA) and municipal corporation (MCG) must disconnect 39 illegal points in legs II and III by June and four in leg-I by December, keeping about 100 million litres a day (MLD) of untreated effluent and 18 MLD of wastewater out. A senior GMDA official said many points stem from informal urban and industrial settlements, and routine inspections stop new ones.
Plans include three 240 MLD sewerage treatment plants (STPs) at Dhanwapur and, with tenders likely in May, two more at Behrampur and Nauraungpur totalling 140 MLD. With 95% of work on three Behrampur STPs done, reuse of 218 MLD for micro-irrigation should begin in December.
A senior HSCPB official said mapping will aid industrial enforcement. A recent report tied about 28 industries to 6.9 MLD into leg-I (Mehrauli-Gurugram road to Bajghera); leg II, around 16.5km from Sector 42 to Sector 107 via Huda City Centre, has 20 points totalling 78 MLD.
