News: Long Power Cuts Hit Dwarka Expressway Societies in Gurugram-24-04-2026
At least eleven residential societies between Sector 84 and 102 along the Dwarka Expressway and the Golf Course Extension Road have faced frequent and long power cuts over the last four to five days, residents alleged on Friday. They said outages ran to around five hours, longer than the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) indicated in WhatsApp alerts.
Praveen Thakur of Conscient Habitat in Sector 99A told HT that cuts of four to five hours had continued for several days without a clear cause, affecting at least five societies in Sector 99 along with Garhi Colony and Garhi village. Santosh Singh of Pareena Laxmi society in Sector 99A said a two-hour maintenance outage announced at 11.35 am on Thursday ended only by 2.15 pm.
Sunil Sarin of Imperial Garden in Sector 102, a co-convener of citizen group Dwarka Expressway Gurugram Development Authority, said at least 1,500 families in three societies there have been affected for eight to ten days. In Sector 84, Pivotal Diwan resident Abhinit Kumar said power went off late Thursday night and had not returned by Friday night, and that discom officials did not respond to calls.
A DHBVN official attributed the cuts to tree pruning and other maintenance, but said they were not as long as residents described and that alerts are always sent for scheduled outages of one to two hours. He added that the 220 kV substation of Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited in Sector 99, expected to be functional by March, is not yet working and will bring relief once it is.
In Sector 63, residents of Golf Drive society alleged a 24-hour outage on Thursday because of faults in an 11kV underground feeder from the 66 kV substation in Sector 56, damaged several days ago during digging. Resident Deepali Sah said power went at 10 am, returned for five to six minutes in between and was fully restored only by 1pm on Friday, before failing again. Those working from home had to make other arrangements as phones, laptops and inverters drained, she said.
A DHBVN official said the fault has been traced and the feeder and a control box need replacing. Sattar Khan, DHBVN executive engineer, Badshahpur, said teams are on the ground, damaged material will be replaced immediately and the society’s internal infrastructure will also be checked. No prior alert was possible, he said, because the major fault occurred suddenly.
