News: Drones to Survey 26km Badshahpur Drain in Gurugram-24-04-2026
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) will use drone surveys to find illegal pathways and sewage discharge points along the 26km Badshahpur drain (Leg-3), which runs from Ghata to Sector 99 via Vatika Chowk and empties into the Najafgarh drain, officials said on Thursday.
The decision follows complaints about informal routes linking areas upstream of the Gadauli culvert with Ramprastha, Behrampur and Badshahpur. A senior GMDA official, who did not wish to be named, said many of these pathways double as access points for illegal sewage connections from nearby colonies, and concrete slabs on embankments raise the risk of overflow. The survey will allow geo-tagged mapping of polluted stretches.
Encroachments on a 6km stretch between Dhankot and Basai will be removed and grilles installed, officials said.
An official of the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) said illegal connections from commercial establishments in Sectors 66, 67 and 69 are being sealed, and tenders have been floated for desilting and pump sets.
Two high-level meetings in March and April discussed tapping 55 million litres per day (MLD) of untreated effluent entering Leg-3 and the Sohna elevated road stormwater drains. An internal sewer line up to the Dwarka Expressway will be connected to the master sewer by June 30. MCG is also likely to divert five under-tapped discharge points along the Gadauli culvert upstream, two near Behrampur and one each near Ullawas and Ghata.
Tests in January recorded biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) of 90 mg/l. Around 30 diversions are planned by June.
