News: NHAI Begins Monsoon Prep on NH-48 and Sohna Elevated Road-23-04-2026
Pre-monsoon maintenance has begun on the Delhi-Gurugram stretch of NH-48 and the Sohna elevated expressway to prevent waterlogging and hydroplaning, National Highways Authority of India officials said on Tuesday.
The repairs, due by May, include cleaning down-take pipes to stop leakage, lubricating bearing structures and anti-glare measures for wet surfaces. Officials said concessionaires on 15-year contracts must inspect and repair drain pipelines and bearing fitments every four months.
Residents questioned the upkeep. Ahsas Taluja of Sector 66 said leakages are frequent on the Badshahpur and Bondsi stretches, with water falling on his windshield every 100m. Commuter Jeeva Thavasiraj said this raises the risk of skidding for two-wheeler riders on the ground lanes.
A senior NHAI official said desilting is underway on a 7km elevated stretch between Rajiv Chowk and Ghamroj, and route patrolling units will join the concessionaire for frequent inspections. Waterproofing is complete on 6km from Rajiv Chowk to Islampur village, out of the 22km corridor to Sohna. A maintenance official said the rest will take another three months.
Separately, NHAI awarded an NH-48 maintenance contract in March. The senior official said drainage cleaning and phased repairs are planned on a 44km corridor to Delhi and 64km from Gurugram to Rewari, and twenty mobile pumps have been procured. An MCG official said illegal connections emptying wastewater into NHAI drains from Rajiv Chowk to Bhondsi are being disconnected.
