News: GMDA Weighs Pod Taxi System After Suzuki, Glydways Talks-18-04-2026
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) said on Friday it may carry out a feasibility survey and a detailed traffic study to identify high-density corridors for a pod transit system.
GMDA CEO PC Meena met senior officials of Suzuki Motor Corporation and pod taxi developer Glydways and said the authority will assess whether the system can improve last-mile connectivity in Gurugram. He said GMDA will coordinate with the departments concerned to evaluate and implement the model, which fits the vision of a sustainable, commuter-friendly transport network.
The system uses small, electric, autonomous vehicles, about the size of a mini car, that run in groups on dedicated lanes and offer private, on-demand rides at the price of a bus ticket.
A GMDA spokesperson said Suzuki is collaborating with Glydways on a demand-based system that makes better use of vehicles and lowers infrastructure and operating costs.
On April 15, representatives of the two companies made a presentation to the Haryana CM in Chandigarh. A government spokesperson said discussions covered feasibility, potential corridors, route planning, investment models and Public-Private Partnership (PPP) possibilities.
