News: Second Flyover Proposed at Baba Kanala Chowk, Gurugram-17-04-2026
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) plans a flyover at Shaheed Rao Ranjit Singh Chowk (Baba Kanala Chowk) on the multi-utility corridor linking the Dwarka expressway with Manesar, officials said on Thursday. It would be in addition to the flyover already approved at Dadi Sati Chowk on the same road.
A feasibility study and detailed project report will be prepared within three months for the authority’s approval. The Dadi Sati Chowk tender will be floated within one week.
The two junctions are around 1.7km apart and have almost the same traffic conditions, officials said, citing heavy vehicles and a growing residential population. Industries and commerce minister Rao Narbir Singh proposed the new flyover at a recent meeting.
At Dadi Sati Chowk, a six-lane, 900-metre flyover will be built on the road from Elan Mall in Sector 84 towards IMT Manesar, with retaining walls so that an underpass on Rampura Road can be added later. An earlier survey found around 9,700 vehicles pass the junction between 8am and 10am and 5pm and 8pm. Under Indian Road Safety norms, an intersection with more than 7,500 vehicles in an hour needs a flyover or underpass.
Pravin Malik, president of the United Association of New Gurugram, a group of RWAs, welcomed the flyovers but said removing the Kherki Daula toll plaza would resolve the congestion entirely, as most traffic is bound for Manesar.
