News: Gurugram, Sohna, Pataudi Bus Stand Shops Auction April 28-16-04-2026
Commercial spaces inside the bus stands of Gurugram, Sohna and Pataudi will be auctioned on April 28, nearly a year after the plan was first announced, an official said on Wednesday. The Department of State Transport, Haryana, will lease the shops for restaurants, tea stalls and other businesses.
Senior transport department official Vimal Sharma told HT the auction will be held at the Sector 12 bus stand in Gurugram. He said it was originally scheduled for April last year but was postponed because officials were engaged in local bodies election work.
The move follows complaints from interested businesspersons about the delay and rising rents. A shoe seller at the Sector-12 bus stand, who did not wish to be named, told HT the dates kept getting pushed for over a year. He said he rented his shop for Rs 8,000 a month seven years ago and now pays Rs 21,000.
Several shopkeepers fear losing their security deposit if they vacate. Binod Kumar, who runs a tea and refreshments shop, said over Rs 9 lakh, almost all his savings, is locked in the deposit.
Under department rules, the deposit equals three months’ rent, and rent is collected quarterly. The official said deposits are not withheld unless dues are outstanding.
