News: MCG Readies Rs 700-Crore Garbage Collection Overhaul-14-04-2026
A fresh Rs 700 crore proposal to overhaul waste collection and transportation has been prepared by the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) and will go to the headquarters by the end of this week for the final Request for Proposal (RFP), officials said.
According to officials, the plan includes increasing the number of garbage-lifting vehicles by nearly 10 crore for door-to-door collection and revising how contractors are paid. Four months have been given for tendering and rollout, and bidders must show experience in urban waste collection and transportation.
Ravindra Yadav, additional commissioner, MCG, said payments were earlier tied largely to fuel and machinery. The new model will emphasise labour costs, with wages based on minimum wage norms, which he expects to improve accountability.
Officials said earlier tenders were revised several times because of technical issues and poor bidder response, forcing the civic body to continue with interim arrangements.
Residents, particularly in newer sectors, have complained of uncollected garbage, overflowing dumping points, stray animals and vehicles skipping routes. Yadav said a fresh tender will be initiated once the headquarters clears the proposal.
